Lunacy In Small Increments

Lunacy In Small Increments is a piece for Percussion Ensemble. The instrumentation is:

Marimba 1

Marimba 2

Percussion 1: BD, Xylophone, Chimes, Bongos

Percussion 2: Wood Blocks (High and Low), SD, Triangle, Congas

Percussion 3: Log Drum, Bongos, Marimba, Concert Toms (4)

The piece revolves around the idea going insane, slowly over time. The beginning features a repetitive rhythmic obstinato with long, connected melodic material flowing along side. This begins to change, starting to show more aggression and division amongst the three percussion parts that were once in sync. There comes a breaking point where the main body of the piece takes over with a fractured melody in the marimbas highlighted by the xylophone. Lunacy grows as the battery takes over and drives us to a second breaking point, at which time the original angular melody takes over until the end.
